Gathering Information - Interviews
24 May, 2012
We are preparing for our big project Exhibition by learning to gather information from multiple sources. Today, students in 5C began the process of writing quality interview questions. Over the next few days they will be interviewing a family member or friend who they think has been an explorer.
In class today we prepared some of our questions using a graphic organizer. Our questions will cover the key concepts of change and causation as well as the PYP profile of Inquirer and the PYP attitude of curiosity. Here is a picture of the example we shared today in class.

Tonight students will finish writing their own interview questions and talk to family members about scheduling a good time to conduct their interview.
5C Explores the NEW Santiago College
In our current Unit of Inquiry, 5th graders are learning about many people who have explored different parts of the world throughout time. We are also sharing in the fun of exploring by planning our own exploration of our brand new school.
We made our proposal keeping a few things in mind:
To vote submit their votes on where to explore, students created a two person presentation of their idea using the iPad application ShowMe. Here are some examples.
We made our proposal keeping a few things in mind:
- What are our motivations or reasons for exploring this place?
- How much time will it take us to explore this area? What are the tools we will need to document our findings?
- Permission - Who do we need to ask in order to be able to safely and respectfully explore this area?
- Connections - Do we see any connections to the PYP profiles (Inquirer & Risk-Taker) and attitudes (Curiosity &Integrity) we are focusing on during this unit?
To vote submit their votes on where to explore, students created a two person presentation of their idea using the iPad application ShowMe. Here are some examples.
