Focusing and Preparing
During this phase of the inquiry cycle our students worked on many important steps to get them started well in their Exhibition process. First, students evaluated and critiqued the Central Idea.

Central Idea
Being tolerant and open-minded to differences can improve the ways we relate to others and our quality of life.
In 5C we did a group brainstorm and identified the words we saw of as the key words in the central idea. Then we used some language resource materials such as dictionaries and thesaureses to help us learn more about these words. Here are some photos of our process.

Lines of Inquiry
After investigating our Central Idea further we began a number of activities to help us write our lines of inquiry. First students reviewed and discussed what the Key Concepts are. Then they observed a teacher model of how to write a line of inquiry. After each model, students took individual time to write their own line of inquiry.
Once everyone had written two or more lines of inquiry Exhibition groups shared their lines of inquiry and voted on which one they felt was the best among their group members.

Friday was a very exciting day for 5th graders at Santiago College. We started the morning with our assembly in the chapel. Each grade five class presented their ideas for the Exhibition. The classes presented in alphabetical order.
As we returned to our classroom it was hard for many in 5C to get comfortable with the new topic. Many of us felt sad to be investigating a topic with so much difficult things. We discussed how we could try and search for the positive things that people are doing despite discrimination and difficult circumstances. This week we will begin investigating further. Here are some resources we will be using to get started.

Our exhibition has begun! Today grade five students gathered in the chapel to celebrate and start their biggest unit in the PYP to date - the exhibition. There was a video, music, a Power Point and sixth grade students who survived the previous year's exhibition. They came back to tell our fifth graders what it was like and to give them some tips on how to be successful.
Tomorrow our class, 5C, will vote on a global issue that we think is important to people all over the world and to us personally here in Chile. Then we will prepare a presentation for our second all 5th grade Exhibition assembly on Friday, July 27th. That is when we will all vote on the topic we are most interested for Exhibition.
You can follow our progress at our Exhibition blog shown below.
